Costumes & Prop Weapons
No functional props or weapons are allowed during events at Moscone Center.
Specific events request attendees be allowed to bring realistic props, weapons and costumes as part of the overall experience. Simulated or costume weapons are allowed as a part of your costume, subject to prior approval by security and compliance with the following:
All costume props and weapons must be inspected by event security or staff. Based on the size of events multiple locations are suggested.
- All costume props and weapons must conform to state and federal law.
- Projectile costume props and weapons must be rendered inoperable.
- Functional (real) arrows must have their tips removed and be bundled and zip-tied to a quiver.
- Costume swords must be tied to your costume in such a way that they can’t be drawn.
- Costumes featuring stilts must be approved.
Costume props and weapons must be tagged by security or event staff with a highly visible indicator (colored zip-locks ties, reflective tape, wristbands, etc.) We recommend a wrist band or other indicator of safety compliance also be affixed to the attendee each day of the show.
Oversized costumes that create a hazard because of crowd size or ease of movement may need to be restricted or temporarily suspended from entry to certain areas of the facility. A written procedure for this type of situation must be included in the event security plan.
Building security or other Moscone Center staff, Event Staff, and Event Security may ask to see your safety indicator at any point during an event. Escorts to the dedicated inspection point will follow should an item not be properly tagged. Uncooperative people will be asked to leave.
